Foundations in print design.

Brian’s first start in professional design goes back to a classic print design medium: magazines. While in college he worked for Boston Magazine as an art intern, and also was a designer for the on-campus student run Tastemakers Music Magazine.

With Boston Magazine and it’s sub-branded publications, Brian learned more of the professional aspects of creating a large scale magazine. From photo research and how to identify and license the perfect image for a piece to being on set for art direction and photo capture, the lessons learned during his internship created an invaluable foundation for his career.

With Tastemakers, Brian was a member of the magazine’s redesign efforts after a few years as a design contributor and occasional writer and photographer. The visual elements the team developed were lauded by professors who complimented the students for making a more cohesive vision, and the core parts of that redesign can still be seen in use in the magazine today.

While this work is now more than a decade old, it’s still one that Brian gets questions about while talking about his graphic design journey.
